Merry Christmas! What a magical (and completely insane) time of the year. When I began doing photography as my line of work, I had NO IDEA what that meant for my falls/winters. And looking back, I am glad (in the same kind of way that you are glad after you had your first baby that your mom didn’t tell you just how much it would hurt) that I was clueless. I’m glad my husband, Freddy, encouraged me to keep plugging away at it because he recognized how much I love the interaction with the kids and the families. I did not go to college, and really lucked out at being a good mom. Being a mom was my thang, I chose to not work outside of the home after my oldest, Isaiah, was born…He’ll move out on his own in 6 crazy short months. And then along came Isabelle 3 1/2 yrs after him, then Illiza 15 months after Isabelle, and Ilana (aka grand finale) 25 months after Illiza. I was busy doing what I absolutely loved and was created to do. As my 85 year old Jewish mentor would say, Motherhood was my Glory. My purpose. My calling. I really loved all the diapers and tiny socks that would get caught in the washing machine agitator, and the floors that needed swept 3 times a day. So when the grand finale was getting ready to start kindergarten and we had just moved to Texas, Freddy and I had a conversation that went something like this:
Me: “I think it’s time I look for something to do for work outside the home.”
Freddy: “Well, you’ve got to ask yourself, ‘If money didn’t matter, what would you want to do?'”
And here we are almost 5 years later. The last several years have been completely insane in the month of December because of the Christmas rush for family photos. I decided back in the spring that my Holiday photo deadline would be earlier this year than it had ever been before and I held my ground even though it was very difficult at times. The only work that I’ve done in December is Santa Photos. And we had record turnouts each of the 3 nights that we did it. I have enjoyed this Christmas season more this year than I have since I started mercymae. And one of the main reasons I have enjoyed it so much is because of how many of you came out to see me and Santa! These Santa photos bring me so much joy! Thank you for bringing your kids to see Santa… Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your Christmas Season!
May your homes be filled with peace and may you feel the love of Jesus as you celebrate this joyous time of year!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
